Frequently Asked Questions

  • Cub Capital is a private investment vehicle of Michael Blakey, a serial investor and entrepreneur since 2000. Named the 2015 Angel Investor of the Year by the British Business Angel Association, Michael is a co-founder of Avonmore Developments (UK) and a managing partner of venture capital fund Cocoon Capital (Singapore).

Cub Capital is led by Maria Shostak who brings a unique blend of marketing, entrepreneurial, and investment expertise to the table. Her experience spans more than two decades and covers diverse international markets, including the USA, Russia Romania, Monaco, the UK and now Singapore.

  • Cub Capital actively supports its portfolio companies and provides hands-on help with strategy, marketing, funding and growth. Unlike venture funds that operate within strict fund timelines and may pressure founders to deliver results too far, and too fast, we prioritise the mid- to long-term success.

  • Cub Capital generally invests at the pre-seed and seed stage. Our focus is on the founding team and the problem they are solving. Generally, we do not get involved in rounds that exceed 1 million dollars.

  • If a plan is of interest, we will contact you for a video or in-person introductory meeting. Following that, we'll conduct thorough due diligence on your company, including a detailed analysis of its financials, technology, and industry landscape, including reference checks.

  • At Cub Capital, we primarily receive deal flow through referrals from business angels, VCs and accelerators / incubators. We also welcome cold inbound submissions through our website or LinkedIn profile. To increase the chances of your submission being reviewed in detail, we recommend researching the companies that we've previously invested in, speaking with their founders, and requesting a referral from them. This will help to establish a personal connection and increase the chances of our successful future relationship.

  • Cub Capital focuses on founders over everything else. We do have more experience with B2B and deep tech businesses, however generally we are sector and area agnostic.

  • Cub Capital has a global investment reach.

  • At Cub Capital, we prioritize quality over quantity when it comes to deal-making. Our focus is on identifying strong businesses at the right price, rather than simply increasing the number of deals we do. As a result, we typically make a few new investments per year while also providing additional financing to companies in our portfolio. This approach allows us to maintain a high level of due diligence and support for our investments.

  • We have a stellar reputation in the industry and global relationships with later stage investors. Maria's marketing background enables her to assist portfolio companies with everything from overall marketing strategy and brand building to campaign execution.

  • We take pride in investing in founders who tackle diverse global problems, from soil degradation, alternative protein production, to providing access to financial services for the unbanked and underbanked population, to name just a few examples. To learn more about our portfolio companies, please refer to the Portfolio section.

  • The size of our stake in the companies varies depending on the deal size and risk profile. However, being angel investors we always take minority stakes.

  • Due to the high volume of business opportunities that we review, we may not be able to provide feedback on every business plan that is submitted to us.

  • Cub Capital does not manage third-party funds, although we can collaborate closely with several high-net-worth individuals, family offices, and venture capital firms to assemble substantial investment syndicates for individual deals.

  • As a private company without external investors, Cub Capital is not bound by a fund wind-up date that requires exit strategies for underlying investments. We typically exit our investments when it aligns with the wishes of management or when external events present opportunities to do so.

  • Cub Capital is not IRR and exit driven. Our objective is to build value over the medium to long term and to align our interests with management.
